Thursday, June 18, 2009The first two weeks in Washington, DC have been nothing short of incredible. DC is full of different cultures and history and I truly feel blessed to be able to spend my summer in such an amazing place. Although I have spent countless hours walking around DC sight seeing, I know that I have only seen a small portion of what makes up DC.

Over the summer I am working for an advocacy group called Citizens Against Government Waste that is committed towards eliminating the various waste and inefficiencies in the federal government. I have been involved in a variety of projects ranging from researching appropriation bills to writing position papers. It has been a lot of work, but I feel that I have already learned so much and know that the experience that I am gaining will last me a lifetime.

One aspect of this internship experience that I first overlooked was the relationships that I would build with my fellow KA brothers. Although we have only known each other for a little over two weeks, I feel that I have grown close to everyone already just because of all that we have experienced together. Leading up to the internship it seems that all I could think about was work and experiencing the DC culture that I forgot about the friendships I would gain with the other interns. Whether it is sight seeing, kayaking on the Potomac, walking with each other to work or meeting up with each other for happy hour after work, I have truly enjoyed spending time and getting to know each one of my roommates.
